Air Combat DogfightExperience The Thrill Of Air Combat With 6 Top Gun Hands-On Aerobatic Fighter Pilot Dogfights 31 Reviews
Price for 1 participant
Experience first-hand the incredible thrill and excitement of flying a Marchetti S260’s in an air-to-air combat. After an introduction to the Tactical Fighter Maneuvers, you will climb into a specially designed military aircraft with your flight instructor. If excitement of the tandem take-off isn't enough to make your pulse race, then wait until you have your hands on the controls as you engage in six "g-pulling" dogfights! Proven training techniques will put you at ease in the cockpit and provide you with the confidence to execute even the most complex aerobatic air combat maneuvers. Your flight will be recorded on video which you will be able to take home after your post flight debriefing. This is a truly stunning experience that you will remember and talk about forever!
Participants are advised to be well rested for the flight. Please avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours prior to the scheduled experience. Motion sickness is possible but unlikely and can be reduced by avoiding heavy meal(s) prior to the scheduled flight. The planes used for the Air Combat Experiences are Marchetti S260’s. These planes are used by the military in fighter pilot training programs. The aircraft are maintained in strict accordance with the Federal Air Regulations and the instructors, both military and civilian, have full credentials. Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form prior to flight.
Xperience Certificates® cannot be exchanged once a reservation for the experience has been made. |

Jim Reed was an excellent instructor and the whole flight was more than I expected. Extreme and outrageous! Thanks for the experience.

This is by far the best experience anyone can have hands down. To actually feel the plane move under your control is truly invigerating. It is a must do.
- Stuart Andrews - Cincinnati, Monday, July 25, 2011
I thought it was great and have talked to a few friends about it.

I've been flying for thirty seven years and thought that shooting an 'ILS' approach in a single engine plane to minimums in bad weather was thrilling. This experience surpassed that tenfold!

I got this for a 10th wedding anniversary gift from my wife and I can only reiterate everything already said by the previous reviewers. It is truly a lifetime experience that anyone will find thrilling. I first heard about this group from a buddy, 'Moon' who flew F-14's off the Ranger and knew the founders - he was an early instructor but we never connected to go out together so it has been on my list for 20 years! I knew from him that it was fun, professional, authentic and first-rate safe. He also sent me a new book called 'Topgun Days' by 'Bio', which should be on every guest's reading list prior to their flight, it will really get you fired up and confirm how true to life the experience is. Many thanks to Bogie, Sludge and my instuctor Flapper for delivering a 'real deal' experience.

Like almost every guy, flying has always been a dream I have never had time to pursue. This was a great gift and I had the time of my life. I got to fly with Bogey who is a great instructor. Very patient and direct, my kind of instructor. The pilots and ground crew where very professional and my general impression of the operation was that it was better than first rate. The planes were well kept, newly painted, and even the quality of the patches, hats, and shirts is very high. They do it right! You do get your video in miniDV which required I get it transferred by a video editor, but I did some research and found they use it because it allows for a very high quality editable file. Don't sit on the fence, get out there and do it!

WONDERFUL!! This was the best gift EVER! The staff was awesome, they helped make this a very memorable event! I have told everyone to try this- thanks for an awesome time!

Wow...What an experience. First time in 54 years I was totally speechless! Many thanks to 'Nails' for being a patient and supportive instructor, made me feel very comfortable in the cockpit. My respect for the guys who do this for real has risen 100 fold. This is a must add to anyones bucket list. Makes me think seriously about getting a pilots license and learning acrobatics.
- Ron Reich - Saratoga CA, Tuesday, October 19, 2010
Wow - what an experience! Six very loopy dogfights (pulling 4 G's!) ended in a draw with a very worthy 'opponent' Angelo, thanks to the great coaching from my instructor Bogey. After the six dogfights, we did some acrobatic moves, which were a total blast! Highly recommend this experience gift to anyone.

My wife & kids got me this ride as a retirement gift. It turned out to be one of the best days of my life. The thrill equaled the days in the jungles of Vietnam. Boogie & Flopper are true professionals even with a cloudy day we had a great time. The 'dogfights' looked like they were on the history channel in their realism. Flying close together and pulling 'G's' is something that is rarely done in the civilian world. I looked forward to repeating the flight soon.
- John Zultanky - Woodbine, NJ, Thursday, September 16, 2010
Simply put, UNBELIEVABLE!!! Only two recommendations - 1) go up twice it takes a little bit to get aclimated, then it gets really fun. 2) I'd like to see them provide a dvd rather than a tape - I'll have to send the tape somewhere to get an electronic file I can use.

It was a fantastic experience, I have to thanks 'Worm' my pilot companion, that helped me to make this a memorable flight. I understand better now what means to be a war pilot, I really admire and respect them, take a lot of work and skills to become one of them. Thanks to my sons for this tremendous gift in my 80th birthday, I will never forget this experience.
- Efraim Kier - San Juan, Puerto Rico, Thursday, September 17, 2009
Great experience!!! Will never forget!!! Looking forward to do it again and again!!!
- Gene Dubetsky - Brookhaven Airport, Wednesday, September 16, 2009
This was a 20th anniversary gift for my husband. When we arrived for his flight we were told there was an opening so I went ahead and gave it a try. We both had a great time! The instructors were great, very professional. I went up against Keith and we both had the time of our lives. I immediately want to do this again! I came home saying ,' when I grow up I wanna be a fighter pilot' ha ha. We highly recommend this. Definately one of the best gifts I ever had. By the way I won! - Terri

This was a gift for my 40th birthday. The flying was absolutely incredible and the pilots and staff were outstanding! This is very addictive. I would do this every week if I could. Thanks Air Combat, the pilots, and of course, my wife (she got me the gift) :) for an experience of a lifetime. Ricky

I thought I'd seen and done it all, but this sits at the top of the list of amazing experiences. A must do for anyone who wants to see and do everything incredible. Amazing staff.

I was a fighter pilot for a day in Los Angeles with Air Combat and couldn't say enough great things about the experience. It was the thrill of a lifetime and an adrenaline rush I will not soon forget. I would recommend it to anyone looking for the an experience of a lifetime. The instructors were great fun, the planes were a blast to fly, and I will definitely be doing this again in the future.
- Jeff Loftus - Rapid City, SD, Tuesday, June 02, 2009
I strongly recommend this experience to anyone with any interest in flying. The staff is very professional, courteous and and fun. I had a great time and will do it again as soon as I can. The dogfighting was very exciting. The staff made the whole experience worthwhile.
- David Rodriguez - Torrance, CA, Tuesday, May 19, 2009
I am in the danger zone and wish I could be a fighter pilot :) This was unbelievable and makes me jealous of these guys who get to do it everyday... I'm already planning my next trip!
- Daniel Brienza - Fullerton, Tuesday, May 19, 2009
I got this trip for my huabands birthday. He talked a friend of his into going with him and they had the time of there lives. They have called all there friends and told them it was awsome. The pilots were great. My husband was terrified to fly but the pilot put his mind at ease and he loved it. He said that he would love to go back. In my husbands words it was 'off the hook'. The friend that went with my husband is a crop duster and has been flying for years and he said it was the most intensive flying he has ever done. He said that trip was one for the Bucket List. Thanks for a memory that will be there for a lifetime.
- kristine pace - Delhi La, Wednesday, April 08, 2009
Words escape me in describing what a blast my dogfight was, and I didn't even have to use my 'Ralph' bag!!! Great instructors (thanks, Bluto, you were patient with this newbie) and terrific aircraft - Next year......Andy Clark
- Andy Clark - Seattle, Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Air Combat Las Vegas was amazing - the pre-flight, the planes, the flight and the instructors were all amazing. Despite the fact that I am a radical air-sickness sufferer, I thought the experience was incredible.
- Jeremy - Las Vegas, Friday, November 07, 2008
I am a car club racer and the excitement I got from Air Combat was as good if not better then racing my car. Fantastic experience and I recommend anyone to give it a try. I am going to try to get back.
- Alan Polo - Riverhead Airport, Friday, October 31, 2008
The experience is much more intense than expected from a prop driven plane. The pilots are very friendly, patient, and make the flight exciting and enjoyable. Eventhough i spoke to 'ralph' it is an experience I will definitely do again. VIFA and FUNGUS were great to an embarrassed but excited dogfight participant. A great gift to anyone who apreciates an adventure of a lifetime.
- Erskine Funderburg - Las Vegas ( October 11 2008), Wednesday, October 15, 2008

To Air Combat,
I wanted to express my experience on Saturday, July 26th, 2008 at Orange County Airport, Montgomery, NY.
I arrived at the airport around 8:00 a.m. to be met by Robert “Boom” Powell and staff. We had gone up to the briefing room and had some classroom briefings prior to flying. Myself, I have around 300 private hours and around 800 military hours during my Air Force tour.
Anyway, I met my opponent, “Woozle”, and he told me he had done this 5 times already and was in the process of taking courses for his private pilot’s license.
After the briefing, and putting on my flight suit, and sizing my head for a helmet, we went down to the flightline and checked out the Marchetti SF-260 planes. Got in the cockpit and started up the engine, and taxied out. We lined up on the runway and took off… “Woozle” and “Boom” were in one plane and “Smudge” and myself were in another plane.
Smudge talked me through some of the maneuvers and what a rush this was! I was in a euphoric nirvana high. We each had our practice targeting and kill and then we went into the real dogfights. To make a long story short, I had all the kills but one, and I felt right at home doing this. If I would have known that flying a fighter was like this, I would have changed my whole perception about what I wanted to do in life. But being 60 now, I can’t turn back the hands of time. But if I ever fly like this again, I want to revisit Air Combat.
This was a phenomenal experience and I didn’t know how to explain it to the friends and family that were waiting for me when I returned. Lots of pictures were taken and the video provided by Air Combat has to be converted to a DVD, but I will be handing out this experience to many of my family and friends.
When we returned to the briefing room for the post flight briefing, Joyce asked Smudge what was my call sign to be? Smudge turns and looks at me and says, “Smooth!” Very fitting if I do say so myself!
I just wanted to thank Larry “Smudge” Vidal for making this flight experience a very exciting and enjoyable one.
Thanks again for a fabulous time in the sky.
Sincerely,
Jeff “Smooth” Winterstein

Bluto and the training team made my guy's 50th birthday something he'll never forget. He was the envy of all of his friends and I got to hear over and over how great I was to come up with such a fantastic gift. We will definitely be doing a repeat in the fall.
- Lelia - NYC area, Sunday, July 27, 2008
It was great. I got in 6 dog fights with my assistant 'Nails'. He was the best. If you ever dreamed of being a fighter pilot and couldn't, this is probably a great substitute. Thanks!
- John - Fullerton, Wednesday, July 23, 2008
I purchased this experience for Tom for Christmas year before last (2006) we went to Vegas in Nov. 07 to redeem the gift.
The staff of Air Combat were beyond professional and were great fun to talk to and spend time with. The experience was one of a lifetime!
We were going to do 2 flights in one day but due to an error unkown error (stuff happens), Tom recieved 1 flight this time and will get his second filght this year.
I was SO VERY impressed with Air Combat in their attempts in contacting us to advise us of the error and give us the second flight that day. We did not provide a cell phone just home so it was not their falt they cound not contact us that day.
After meeting the guys and spending time talking to them I would reconmend this experience to anyone. It was by far the best gift I have ever given and I have no regrets in doing so!
Thanks Nails!!!!

I have flown with this group 6 or 7 times. I have taken all the classes even the airobatic lesson. The instructors are a great bunch of guys and if you want Extreme excitment this is the place to do it. I'm trying to get a lady friend to do it with me.
Don't just take the 1st class and stop. Do a double flight in 1 day and see how much fun it can be!Believe me, you won't forget it. I don't know about 6g's but I did 5 1/2! On one flight I shot down a retired Navy Capt who flew Tomcats 4 times. This is not like flying a jet, which are fly by wire (computer assisted) this is you, your instructor and the plane against another pilot. Experience isn't necessary.
Again, a great bunch of guys. I recommend it to any one. Thanks for the great times and I'll see you guys again. Jim, Normal and all the rest, sorry I can't remember all your names.

Question: Can you please explain the difference between the air combat dogfight and a regular propellor plane flight experience?
Answer: The experience takes place in Marchettis, which are dual controlled aerobatic aircraft. An instructor is with the participant at all times and would take care of the take off and landing of the plane, however once in the air the participant would take the controls and fly the aircraft. The instructor will guide the participant throughout the flight and can always take control of the plane if necessary.
You may watch a video of the Air Combat Experience which illustrates how amazing this airborne adventure truly is!
The flight is a hands on experience where the participants will get to take the controls of the plane and fly against their opponent in a second plane in Top Gun style dogfights. This is not a simulator in any way and participants do not need any previous experience and there is no age requirement. Participants as young as 8 years old have enjoyed the experience.
Question: Does the participant need to have a pilot license or prior flight experience?
Answer: Participation in the Air Combat Experience is only limited to individuals weighing less than 250lbs and less than 6 Feet 7 Inches tall. Individuals as young as 8 yrs. old have taken part in this adventure and no experience is necessary.
Question: Can I make a reservation date prior to purchasing a ticket for the flight?
Answer: You may make a reservation for the experience gift at the time of purchase by contact us at (866) 973-7436.
Question: I want to know the age and skill requierements for this experience.
Answer: Participation in the Air Combat Experience is only limited to individuals weighing less than 250lbs and less than 6 Feet 7 Inches tall. Individuals as young as 8 yrs. old have taken part in this adventure and no experience is necessary.
There have never been any issues with safety or injury for this experience which has been offered since 1988 and served over 38,000 participants.
Question: Do I need to have any physical preparation prior the flight? Also, Is it true that I will be able to control the plane once it is in the air?
Answer: The Air Combat experience is actually a hands on experience where the participants will get to take the controls of the plane and fly against their opponent in a Top Gun style dogfight. This is not a simulator in any way and participants do not need any previous experience or a pilots license.
