The tour guide was very good. Enjoyed the four places we saw, however the website indicates five locations for a two hour tour and we only went to four locations for a one and a half hour tour. Wondering why we did not go to a fifth location as advertised. However, we enjoyed this tour and will look into others.

Excellent! Our guide, Lindsey, was charming and knowledgable and made the tour totally interesting and enjoyable. The places we went were all wonderful!

Great tour of some local shops and bakeries with ample chocolate sampling throughout! This is not a tour about how chocolate is cultivated per se, it is more an introduction to the confectioneries of the area and the different types/styles of chocolate truffles or desserts they offer. Wonderfully fun, and especially great for NY natives or people that have been to NYC many times and are looking to explore new non-touristy locations. Well done!

I purchased this tour for Valentine's Day my husband and I both enjoy walking, chocolate, and New York City (we're New York natives). The weather cooperated, and we arrived at the designated address at 3:15 for a 3:30 tour. Our guide, Matt, arrived right on time. He was pleasant and personable. We visited five chocolate shops/cafes (locations are subject to change), and the samples were mostly all good. At the first two locations, we were able to select two truffles from a variety offered, including some rather unique ones, including rose, bourbon, chili pepper- and elderflower-infused truffles.(There were also more traditional varieties, including dark chocolate, hazelnut, and peanut butter). The proprietresses at the first two locations were very personable and made us feel welcome (there were twelve of us on the tour). The shops were small, however, and we had to be creative about sharing the space, some of us staying outside while others chose their truffles. There was no time to browse and consider purchase, although that was a mentioned part of the tour. The third location was a cafe where chocolates, hot cocoa, wine, and spirits were served. It was so crowded that Matt chose the two types of truffles we would try, and he also got us samples of chili pepper-infused hot chocolate, which was pleasantly surprising in its taste. The fourth location was a vegan/gluten-free speciality shop, where we were each able to have two small brownies and two cupcakes again, Matt procured them for us, given the crowded conditions. The last location was a shop specializing in cheesecake, and each of us selected a slice of the cheesecake of our choice, including raspberry, Key Lime Mousse, chocolate, banana, and pecan caramel. The second location, Bespoke Chocolate, and the fifth, Elaine's Cheesecake, were the ones whose products we enjoyed most. We would definitely revisit the Cocoa Bar, the third location. The first and fourth locations, Bonn Street Chocolates and Babycakes were definitely more than acceptable, but we would likely not go out of our way to visit or order from them. Matt adapted well to the crowded and often confusing disadvantages the day visited upon our tour, but he provided very little information about each site. He spoke highly of the first two, and gave kudos to the owners, but did not offer much in the way of information as we walked or at the other places. For example, while we drank our hot chocolate at the Cocoa Bar, he merely waited for us to finish. With a map, we could have easily found our way ourselves we did not receive much in the way of Bowery Lane or shop history that couldn't be gleaned from a little research or asking the shop owners some questions. The crowded conditions were certainly a hindrance for a true 'tour,' and the need to stick to a schedule impeded our ability to take advantage of the opportunity to purchase products. If you like chocolate and you like walking, go for it but don't go on Valentine's Day. You will not be able to reap the full benefit of this tour on any day when the purchase of chocolate is a big thing: Mother's Day, Easter, etc.
