Bucktown/Wicker Park

5 stars

Enjoyed the history & architecture of the tour as well if not more than the tastings.

- - Bolingbrook, IL

Awesome- even for locals!

5 stars

We received the Chicago food tour (we chose Gold Coast) as a gift. We delayed quite a bit in using it because being locals of the city we thought it would be too 'touristy'. While there were a handful of people visiting the city on our tour, I was first surprised by how many locals were on it. Not only that- we loved it! At one point I even forgot we were actually on a food tour because of how great our guide was and all of the other cool things she would point out along the way (also starting at Lou Malnati's keeps you pleasantly full along the way). The food was fun and a great variety of places. We found that the food/tastings were appropriately spaced out and thoughtful to make for a really pleasant afternoon.

Great / Fun

5 stars

This tour was so much fun! Not only did we get to try a bunch of different food that we probably wouldn't have tried in the first place, but we also got to learn a little about the places we went to. It was a blast!

Review of Gold Coast Tour

5 stars

Having a daughter just move to the city we thought this a great way for us to get a feel of her neighborhood. It was the perfect plan. Colleen was great fun, informative and the food was varied and really really tasty. We have already started Christmas list items from the tea shop, oil store and candy shop. As a mom I now feel much better being able to visualize where my daughter lives and know exactly what she is talking about when she says Chicago Pizza.

Our guide Kent was charming and knowledgeable as he led through the area and to our tastings. The group was pleasant and we had a beautiful day. The walk was a little tiring for our 70-year-old plus legs but we enjoyed the experience and the variety of food.

Best day in the city ever!

5 stars

I cannot recommend this tour highly enough! We had a fabulous time and learned so much about Chicago, the spice trade, tea, history of deep dish pizza, the making of evoo, how pastrami is made, etc. It was a pleasure to explore shops we would not have found otherwise. The esteemed Tom Erd himself spoke at The Spice House. Who knew that tasting oils at Old Town Oil would be such a delight?

Great tour, even for native Chicagoans! Carrie, the guide, was pleasant, conversive, and very knowledgable. The restaurants visited provided ample-sized tastings, and a great variety of foods, both savory and sweet. And, the architectural aspect of the neighborhood tour was an added bonus! We'd highly recommend this to locals and those from out-of-town!

We had a wonderful time on the walking/eating tour in Bucktown and Wicker Park. The variety of food/drink allowed us to try things we would never have gotten. Carrie was a wonderful guide with much enthusiasm and knowledge of the areas. We have wholeheartedly recommended it to others already!!

A Great Food Tour

5 stars

This was a great tour. Never boring. Our guide was awesome. We loved every part of it. My husband has a peanut allergy and we were impressed with the adjustments made in the tour for him. He was worried he wouldn't be able to try everything, but he was able to have something at every stop - we are appreciative of that. We will definitely recommend this tour to others and are thinking about getting it for our parents as a Christmas gift! Thank you for a wonderful day.

Bucktown Wicker Park Food Tour

3 stars

This tour was fun and very enjoyable. Our tour guide Kent' did a great job with the history of the Bucktown Wicker Park area and how it has changed over the years. The places that were listed for our tour, were not the same ones that we went to. I was very disappointed with that, as I had researched all of the stops prior to going on this tour and really looked forward to them. I will say that 4 out of the 6 places that we did go to were excellent. I would say that Hot Chocolate and Sultans Market were the best and that going to I Cream was a waste of time.

Question: My brother lives in Chicago and we're both foodies. I thought this would be the perfect tour for us but I don't want to bore him. Is this tour just about the food or will we get additional information from the tour guide?

Answer: This isn't just a food tour at all!! Along the way you'll get cultural, historical and architectural insight about the neighborhoods you're walking through. Your guide will also point out historic mansions, backyard venues and hidden parks and attractions. Your brother is sure to find some hidden gems and hear some unique stories along the way.

Question: How much food is served on the Chicago Food Tour? Should I make reservations for lunch after the tour or will we be full?

Answer: Most people that participate in the tour do not need lunch afterwards.

Question: I'd like to get my grandparents a food tour in Chicago for their anniversary. Does the Chicago Food Tour and the Chinatown Food Tour of Chicago both have bathroom stops on the way?

Answer: Yes, both tours will stop for tastings at locations that have bathrooms.
