Take the controls of a Helicopter and learn to fly over beautiful Lancaster County during a 20 minute Hands-On Introductory Helicopter Flight Lesson. This airborne adventure takes place at the Smoketown Airport.

The fun of this flight lesson begins when you arrive at the Airport and meet your friendly Instructor. They will check you in for your lesson and teach you a bit about how a Helicopter flies and provide information on its flight controls, how to read the gauges and how to make sure the helicopter is safe to fly. Once the overview is complete, you will climb into the Co-Pilot’s seat of the Robinson R22 and get ready for lift-off. Once in the air, you will enjoy amazing views of Lancaster Country as you learn to pilot a helicopter. With the help of your flight instructor, you will have the opportunity to actually fly a Helicopter!

So whether you have always wanted to try it or you’re thinking of becoming a Pilot, this Intro Flight Lesson is the ticket and makes a great gift!

Question: I purchased a helicopter flight lesson for my husband's birthday in Pennsylvania. Can I ride along as a passenger to take pictures?

Answer: No. Unfortunately the helicopter used in this flight lesson is a 2 passenger Robinson R22. He'll probably prefer the passenger seat be occupied by the pilot/instructor!

Question: If I decide to pursue my helicopter license, can I count this lesson towards my hours?

Answer: Yes! If you're interested in obtaining a helicopter pilot's license be sure to ask your instructor about how to proceed.

Question: I'd like to purchase the Smoketown Helicopter lesson for my friend's birthday but I'm not sure how much he weighs. It's going to be close. How strict are they about the weight limits?

Answer: The weight limits are set for safety based on the aircraft they use for the class. They are very strict about the weight and will weigh him before the lesson. If he is even a pound over he can be turned away. Experience Days gift certificates are exchangeable so if you decide to give him the certificate, and he doesn't qualify for the lesson, he can always give us a call to pick another activity.

Question: Is this a demonstration or will I actually get to be at the controls of the helicopter?

Answer: This is a hands on lesson. The instructor will take off and land but the rest of the time you will be in control of the aircraft.

Question: My son is 15 and has always been fascinated with helicopters. His favorite show is "Airwolf"! I thought this lesson would be a birthday gift that he would never forget but I want to make sure he's not to young.

Answer: A 15 year old may take the lesson. Any student under the age of 18 is required to have a parent or guardian sign a liability/release form prior to participation.

Question: What happens if my flight is cancelled for bad weather?

Answer: Any weather related cancellation will be rescheduled directly by the flight school.

Question: Is there a weight limit for this experience? I want to give this as a gift I think my friend is closer to 280lbs.

Answer: Unfortunately, the maximum weight for participants may not exceed 220lbs.
