Reel 'em In

Expert guides will take you and a guest to the best spots to Saltwater Fly-Fish where they will share with you their secrets.

  • Jamaica Bay - April/May/June
Just 20 minutes (12 miles) from downtown Manhattan, lies a surprisingly fertile and beautiful fishery named Jamaica Bay. Extending from the runways of JFK, to the beaches of Staten Island, Sandy Hook and Coney Island, this is a huge area with no lack of fishable, productive water and is much more than novelty fishing in the shadows of the NYC skyline.

This area holds one of the last great populations of Atlantic Menhaden, huge baitfish in huge schools, that attract the largest of the 3 gamefish pursued here with a fly-rod. Striped Bass, Bluefish and Weakfish are the fish and here we get 'em as good as anywhere. If you can stay hooked to them, you could literally have a fish of a lifetime on light-tackle.

  • East Hampton or Montauk - June/July/August
The nicest time of year in one of the most beautiful places on earth. You will primarily be fishing in Gardiners Bay and the flats therein; a huge area with countless flats spots from Amagansett to Sag Harbor to the Peconic Bay. This is by far the most challenging, yet the most rewarding angling for a fly-fisherman. Utilizing a flats boat for this time of year, you will pole down shorelines and flats, sight-casting to Bass that range from 4-30 pounds with an average fish of about 6 pounds. Perfect casts, meticulously-tied flies and nerves of steel are the name of the game.

For those that enjoy their experience during August, you will move to the deeper waters around the North Fork and Fishers Island. Exciting fishing done with super-fast currents around huge rocks, and constantly breaking Bass. The fish can be picky so the casts have to be quick and accurate, but the reward will be extremely strong fights in such fast currents.

During this time, both available boats will be in Montauk and Jamaica Bay, as well as East Hampton. There is also the possibility of exotics this time of year such as Bluefin, Skipjack and Green Bonito as well as Spanish Mackerel and Mahi Mahi.

  • Montauk - September/October
This is truly a life changing fishing experience for the Fly-Fisherman that has never been in Montauk when it is "going". From just after Labor Day when the False Albacore show, to join the giant frothing schools of Bluefish, the game is on. Jostling for position when the massive schools of Striped Bass, sometimes all in the 20 pound range, come up along the shoreline. This fishing is world renowned and people come from all over to see and fish it. This time of year books many months in advance.
  • Jamaica Bay - November/December
As the fishing in Montauk slows, your Xperience location moves back to Jamaica Bay to take advantage of the migrating fish that are heading west and south. These Striped Bass move much faster this time of year and are aggressively feeding of the big bait balls all along the south shore of Long Island.

Every Experience Certificate comes beautifully presented in our unique Xperience Days Gift Box.
