Boarding at the Rusk or Palestine depots, the train travels through the scenic piney woods and hardwood creek bottoms of East Texas where rolling hills, nature and wildlife abound.

During your journey, you will learn first-hand what it is like to command the rails in either a steam or diesel engine as you ride alongside the Engineers! Upon reaching the depot half-way through your journey may then enjoy a freshly prepared lunch as you regale stories of your new railroad expertise. Since your work is done, you will then have the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery as you make the return trip in the passenger cars and enjoy the beauty of Texas, so don't forget your camera!

The Texas State Railroad Scenic Train Ride Xperience Certificate® is for one participant. There will be additional participants onboard the train.

Guests
This experience is not suitable for non-paying guests.

When
The Texas State Railroad Scenic Train Ride Experience is offered year-round, subject to availability. The train typically departs at 11:00 AM.

Duration
The Texas State Railroad Scenic Train Ride Experience has a travel time of 4½ hours and a total duration of approximately 5 hours. You will ride in the Train Cab for half of the journey and in the climate-controlled car for the other half.

Weather
The Texas State Railroad Scenic Train Ride Experience may be cancelled by the Conductor if there are severe weather conditions. Cancellations due to weather are rare.

What to wear
Casual attire is suggested. Tank Tops and Shorts are not permitted. Participants must wear long sleeve tops and pants as well as leather shoes with low heel (no sandals or tennis shoes permitted).

Additional Information
Participants must be 18 yrs or older to ride with the Train Conductor and will receive goggles, gloves, and ear plugs for the one-way journey. Passengers must be able to tolerate long periods of high heat, physically capable of standing for two to three hours, have full mobility of all limbs, be able to climb vertical steps unassisted and must not require the use oxygen tanks or use assisted breathing equiptment.

Passengers will ride in climate controlled seating is air conditioned or heated depending on the day's temperature on the return trip. Please note that windows in the climate controlled cars must remain closed.

Lunch is not included. Freshly made sandwiches on delicious bread with several choices of meat and cheeses and additional items are available for purchase at the concession area including hot dogs, nachos, Frito pies, sandwiches, snacks, ice cream, sodas and more. Price includes tax. Paid parking is available and is $5.00 at the lot entrance.

TSRR engine crew has the right to refuse this service if, in their judgement, the participant cannot comply with the requirements necessary.

Cancellation Policy
All changes to reservations for the Texas State Railroad Scenic Train Ride Experience require fourteen (14) days advance notice.

Xperience Certificates® cannot be exchanged once a reservation for the experience has been made.
