Xperience Days wishes you and your family Happy Holidays!
On Friday the 4th December, the team in the UK set off to Bournemouth with a mission; to break the World Record for ‘the most presents being wrapped simultaneously’. After months of preparations and promotions, the big day finally arrived.
First stop; a quick dash to the local Radio station for a spot on the breakfast show.
Tom and Laura, two lovely representatives of Bournemouth University’s Raising and Giving (RAG) and Volunteering Societies, had offered to take part in the interview. But this was no ordinary Radio show where a simple chat would suffice, Tom was to go head to head with the presenter in a wrap-off!
Following the radio show, the team arrived at the Citygate Centre to begin the mammoth task of unloading and unpacking 400 toys, all of which had kindly been donated by toy giant Mattel. With toys and boxes everywhere, it was like a scene from Santa’s grotto!
Setting out tables and chairs for 400 people took some strength and organisational skills, and with only a few hours before the doors would be thrown open to the excitable public, time was of the essence.
By 4 o’clock everything had come together, and with each of the 400 wrapping stations equipped with a present, wrapping paper, bow, and Santa hat, it was time to begin.
All that was left was to prep all the fantastic stewards, time keepers and witnesses on their very important roles, set up the cameras, invite everyone in and let the magic unfold!
As the individuals were shown to their seats and the room began to fill, the atmosphere was amazing. The event really had brought people of all ages together in Christmas spirit.
“Are you ready to WRAP? I can’t hear you, ARE YOU READY TO WRAP?!?! 3..2..1…WRAP!!!”
Steve Harris (BBC Radio Presenter) announced to the hall of eager volunteers, as they all set about quickly wrapping the present in front of them, resembling a scene of Santa’s elves preparing gifts in his workshop.
Standing on the stage observing the festive scenario unfolding beneath, it couldn’t have felt more like Christmas, especially once the Santa hats started popping up on the participants heads one by one signalling their completion.
With 6 seconds to spare the final ribbon was tied, the clock was stopped and it was over. Now the only question that remained was; had the World Record been beaten?!
Unfortunately there weren’t quite enough wrappers to break the record, however nonetheless the event was a huge success, and all 400 toys were donated to Barnardo’s Children’s Charity in time for Christmas!
Carole Banton from Barnardo’s Children’s charity said: “Despite not breaking the record, it didn’t matter as the event was still brilliant.”
She added “Children and families in Bournemouth are going to really benefit from all this fantastic goodwill. Some of the children and families we work with are really struggling financially, especially at this time of year. We’re really thrilled.”
Knowing the achievement that day was all for a good cause couldn’t have been more rewarding, and we’re sure everyone that took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
We are so delighted to be able to help support Barnardo’s this Christmas, and we hope that all those that receive a gift have a very Merry Christmas.
From the team at Experience Days UK – “Merry Christmas!”
With Thanksgiving less than a week away, we’re sure the preparations are well under way. To help you avoid that last minute panic we’ve composed a list of our top gifts for him and her this Thanksgiving.
If you’re not a master chef in the kitchen, but it’s your turn to host Thanksgiving dinner for all the family, then take a bit of the pressure off yourself and purchase one of our cooking course experiences. There’s no better way to brush up on your cooking skills than by learning from the professionals! Perhaps you’re looking for the perfect gift for her this Thanksgiving and need a little inspiration. If so we’ve got it covered!
Every woman likes to feel beautiful, so what better way to let her know how gorgeous she is than by treating her to a boudoir photo shoot. These photo shoot experiences are designed to let your inner beauty shine, and capture you looking natural and gorgeous. If you think this is an experience she would enjoy, you can see the full list of boudoir photography experiences here.
If she’s slightly camera shy then perhaps a dance experience will be more up her street. Every woman loves to dance, however may not have her footwork down to a T. So what better way to learn than by treating her to a professional dance class? Plus this experience will benefit the two of you, as she will need someone to practice her moves with later on!
If you’re looking for the perfect gift for him, then spoil him this Thanksgiving and make all his dreams come true with a driving day experience!
We all know how much boys love their cars (sometimes a little too much), so picture the smile on his face when he finds he’s going to be racing round the track in a Ferrari – I think for a lot of men that’s called living the dream!
With driving days being some of our most popular experiences, we have plenty of variety to choose from.
If he’s already been lucky enough to experience a driving day, then the next best thing is of course a beer tasting experience! Everyone knows that a man’s second favourite activity after driving is drinking, and with that in mind we’ve got a lot of drinking experiences for you to choose from.

Check out our beer tasting experiences here.
So there we have it, our official gift guide to Thanksgiving. If only preparing Thanksgiving dinner was as simple as an Experience Days gift certificate!
This week we’ve been getting to know a little bit more about Lake Mead Cruises. These awesome experience providers run paddlewheel cruises on Nevada’s Lake Mead. You can kick back and relax with a decadent champagne brunch, or treat yourself and a loved one to a romantic dinner cruise. Have a read to find out more about these fantastic experiences and what they have to offer.
Please could you tell us a bit about the history of the company and how the experience began?
When a contract for a sightseeing vessel business at Lake Mead was offered by the National Park Service in 1987, we recognized what a unique opportunity this would be. There had been no sightseeing vessels cruising Lake Mead since the early days of the lake. So, we threw our hat into the ring and were thrilled to be awarded the contract in September 1987. But it was the 1991 arrival of the Desert Princess (our beautiful three-deck paddlewheeler) that really got the fun rolling.
What would you say is the best thing about the experience you offer?
We’re close enough to the action of Las Vegas to be reached by car, but we’re worlds away in atmosphere. Out on Lake Mead, we enjoy sunshine, fresh air, and front row seats to spectacular natural surroundings. All of the noise of our glitzy neighbour gets left behind. The variety our of cruise types mean that passengers can choose to just kick back with a cold drink on the top deck of a sightseeing cruise, toast family and friends on a champagne brunch cruise, or indulge in a memorable night out with someone special on a dinner cruise.
What makes your excursions different to others?
As the only passenger vessel cruising Lake Mead, we provide a singular experience for visitors to the area. Passengers are always wowed as we glide between the high walls of Black Canyon and the Hoover Dam and its bypass bridge comes into view. But it’s the meal cruises where our excursions truly shine. Where else can Las Vegas visitors and locals enjoy a multi-course dinner, served by a gracious crew, as they watch the sun set over miles of calm water and colorful desert mountains? It’s definitely an escape from your average Vegas outing.
Are your experiences suitable for everyone?
We regularly welcome full families, from infants to their grandparents, aboard our sightseeing cruises. Kids love watching the paddlewheel turn and spotting bighorn sheep, and adults are entertained by the historical narration – and of course, the on-board bar.
Have you got any new exciting news to share with us?
We recently revamped our ticketing and landing area and upgraded our dining decks with luxurious new seating. We’re always looking to improve the guest experience.
Lastly, is there anything else you’d like to add?
We’re often considered one of the best kept secrets in Southern Nevada, and we appreciate the opportunity to let the cat out of the bag with your customers.
Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us! Your Lake Mead Cruises sound fantastic.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I spot that first Hot Air Balloon of the year it gives me this excited feeling that summer is on its way, and we can finally say goodbye to those long dark miserable evenings and welcome in the warm summer nights, full of barbeques, evening drinking and best of all outside activities!
Here at ExperienceDays.com were all for summer activities, with Hot Air Ballooning being one of our top choices for summer.
Whether you’re the one going up in the balloon and soaring over the crowds below or, your one of the spectators staring up in awe as you watch the balloons gracefully fly overhead, the experience from both perspectives is spectacular.
With Hot Air Ballooning becoming ever more popular, many of the States are now hosting their very own Hot Air Balloon Festivals.
New Jersey recently held its 33rd Annual Quickcheck Balloon festival, which see’s hundreds of individuals attending to watch over a hundred balloons of all shapes and sizes ascend into the sky!
Taking to the skies this year we saw Yoda and Darth Vader from Starwars, BabyBlue and Baby Dino to name but a few. Quickcheck is always searching for new and exciting special shaped balloons to add to its display, making it an extremely fun visual experience!
Great Chesapeake Balloon Festival held in Easton Maryland, is a new balloon festival, having just hosted its third annual event which saw a record number of guests attend. We’re expecting the event to continue to grow and you never know it could become the next Albuquerque!
Talking off Albuquerque If you’re looking for a ballooning event on a larger scale then Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta will not disappoint! Every October over 750,000 individuals flock to New Mexico to attend this incredible event!
The surreality of 500 balloons taking to the sky all at once is absolutely breath-taking for both first time visitors as well as annual attendees. The display continues to get even bigger and more elaborate every year! The event now hosts its very own balloon glow, this is where all of the balloons ignite their flames at the same time and light up the balloon from within, creating an amazing magical display!
But if New Mexico is too far for you to travel to, and your now green with envy of all the people soaring off into the sunset, not to worry, as we have up to 70 Hot Air ballooning experiences all across America!
Whether you’re looking for a ride in Kansas, Las Vegas, New York, or Denver, we’ve got it covered! Check out all the Hot Air Balloon experiences and locations we offer.
As you take to the sky you will be able watch the picturesque scenery float past you as you admire it from a completely different perspective. These experiences offer you the chance to discover first-hand the thrill of riding in a Hot Air Balloon.
We offer balloon rides at both sunrise and sunset to ensure that you get to experience the beauty of the landscape at its absolute finest.
Our Ballooning experiences serve as a great day out, as a celebratory occasion or gift.
Happy Flying Everyone!
We know how you’re all feeling, it’s Monday morning, the weekends come and gone and you’re now left with those weekend blues, and a long week ahead of you.
So we’ve decided to put a bit off excitement back into your Monday and start the week right by launching our U.S competition! And it is Burritoful! (That’s a cheeky little hint).
We are all big foodies here in the office (lovers of food) and despite it being summer and trying to maintain that beach body, we do like to treat ourselves every now and then. I guess you could call Friday our cheat day, as we love to take it in turns to go out and pick up different cuisines for everyone in the office to try. Last Friday was my turn and so I decided to treat everyone to my personal favourite, Chipotle, which went down an absolute treat!
For those of you that don’t know what Chipotle is (which I know is extremely unlikely) it’s a Mexican grill, offering Burritos, Tacos and Bowls, and you get to choose from a variety of options what you would like to put in yours!
I’m one of those people who always sticks to the same order, so this is what I always go for:
A chicken burrito with brown rice and black beans, fresh tomato salsa, tomatillo green-chili salsa, sour cream and cheese! It’s delicious!
Whilst we were all enjoying our Mexican treats it gave us some inspiration for our next competition idea! So you’ve probably all guessed by now, and if you haven’t you really must be tired this Monday morning, as that’s right it’s a Chipotle competition!
We are going to be giving one lucky winner a $75 Chipotle gift certificate, and here’s the best part, all you need to do is tweet what your Chipotle order is to @experiencedays using the hashtag #Competition #Chipotle, it really is as simple as that!
We will be launching the competition at 4pm today and announcing the winner at 4pm Friday, so make sure you head over to our twitter page https://twitter.com/experiencedays and get your answers in!
Now lets’ all get on with some work, and stop day dreaming about Chipotle, at least until 4pm!
We are celebrating National Aviation Day here at the Experience Days office!
Next week, on August 19th, marks Orville Wright’s 144th birthday. Orville was one of the founders of aviation and together with his brother, achieved the once thought impossible; they invented and conducted the first powered flight in 1903. Here at Experience Days we can only imagine how the brothers must have felt to be the first people to experience flight in a powered airplane!
Once this incredible feat had been achieved, mankind’s fascination with experiencing flight has never ceased. From travel to shipping, pleasure to rescue, the power of flight has helped us achieve an enormous amount and it’s all thanks to the Wright brother’s belief that the impossible might just be possible. As Orville once said:
“If we all worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true is really true, there would be little hope of advance.”
Pretty inspiring stuff!
All this talk of flying has got us desperate to celebrate National Aviation Day in style, by spreading our wings and experiencing the gift of flight ourselves. While this is probably just a dream for us, (after all we have important work to do here in Experience Days HQ) all you flying fanatics may just be in luck…. We’ve put together our top airborne experiences for you to enjoy this National Aviation Day:
Biplane flights are probably the closest you can get to experiencing the Wright Brothers first flight. Step back in time and feel the wind rushing by as you fly open air in a vintage biplane. This flying experience allows you to really feel the incredible freedom of the skies, the original, old-fashioned way. The Explorer Flight in Sonoma offers picture perfect views of the breath-taking scenery of Napa’s wine country. You will even have a choice of flying over to the coast or witnessing spectacular views of San-Francisco including the Golden Gate Bridge.
How about a different type of flight? Paragliding on Santa Barbara beach has got to be one of the top aviation experiences out there. The beach stretches out before you as you take to the skies in the wonderfully silent and peaceful paragliding experience. You’ll never forget the feeling. The Santa Barbara beach paragliding spot is actually ranked as one of the top places to try out paragliding in the USA! Not one to be missed if you are in the Santa Barbara area this Aviation Day!
For a really extreme flying experience, there is always Skydiving! More of a fall than a flight, it is the ultimate Aviation Day experience. Our top pick has got to be skydiving over the beautiful Poconos. Experience the exhilarating flight to 13,000 feet and then the main event: a 120mph, 30-40 second free fall. After your parachute deploys, you can enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains as you glide back to earth safely. This Poconos Skydiving experience will stay with you forever and is something every adrenaline junkie should experience at least once.
What better excuse than National Aviation Day to take that flying lesson you’ve always wanted? Learning the skills to fly a plane is an incredible accomplishment and gives an enormous sense of achievement. If it is something that appeals to you, try our Vail Valley Discovery Flight Lesson. After a 45 minute introduction on ground, you will then take to the skies and experience what it is like to fly!
Take a look at our video review of this incredible experience gift here:
Flying is something we believe everyone should experience at some point in their lives, it really is one for the bucket list. What better time to take to the skies than National Aviation Day, Orville Wrights birthday. We think he would be over the moon to see how far humankind has come from that first 20 second flight over a wind-swept beach in South Carolina…

Sadly, my time in Colorado had to eventually come to an end… That said, my last couple of days were my favorite – so have a look below to see what I finished the week doing!
Day 6: Tubing the Yampa River and Rodeo
My first glimpse at Steamboat weekend life was everything I thought it would be; extremely relaxed, gloriously sunny, and featuring a lot of beer! On the Saturday we checked out the incredible Mustang display in town, then drove up to the Yampa River and inflated our tubes for an afternoon of gentle cruising. The difficult part was getting into the tube, but once you’re settled it’s easy sailing, you just let the current carry you along the water, meeting people as you go and snoozing in the sunshine. Bliss! Getting out of the tube was also somewhat difficult, and probably the least graceful thing I’ve ever done, but we managed to drag them over the bank and went back to Sunpie’s for a few more drinks. In the evening I was introduced to my very first rodeo, which was like nothing I’d ever seen before!
Day 7: Brunch at Creekside Café and Paddleboarding
My final day started in the best possible way, with an enormous breakfast from the famous Creekside Café! Michelle ordered the waffle with blueberries and bacon on the side, whereas I went for the signature breakfast burrito – then we cut them in half and shared, so we got the best of both! Even though I felt like I needed to sleep for a week after that meal, time was of the essence, so we drove up to a serene lake in the mountains, and I had my first go at paddleboarding (so, so much harder than it looks). After a beautiful morning, it was unfortunately time to say goodbye and catch my flight home.
I had an absolutely fantastic time in Colorado and can’t thank Michelle enough for having me! Hopefully she enjoyed it as well, and won’t be against the idea of me visiting again in the future… But for now, I’ll have to make do with the English weather and all the UK Experience Days has to offer.
Following last week’s blog post, here’s what I did over the next few days in Colorado!
Day 3: Horse Back Riding and Steamboat Smokehouse
Wednesday was a very exciting day for me – my first time riding a horse! And I promise I’m not just saying this… But I honestly think Steamboat was the best place to have my first time, the weather was perfect, the views were spectacular, and we were taken up the mountain by a real cowboy! The ride took place at Sombrero Ranch, where our guide, AJ, introduced us to our horses (mine was Bailey) and helped us get settled in the saddle. He lead us leisurely up, across, and back down the mountain, asking us questions and telling us all about the history of the ranch. I absolutely loved the horse riding, and can’t wait to try it in England! Afterwards, we’d worked up a bit of an appetite, so we headed to the local Steamboat Smokehouse for some traditional American food. I’d never had cheese curds or brisket, and Michelle told me I had to try American ribs, so that’s what I went for – and Michelle had fish and chips! There was a live bluegrass band playing as well, which just topped off a fantastic evening.
Day 4: Mt. Werner Gondola Ride
Thursday saw us heading another 3,000ft into the air by taking a scenic gondola ride up the mountain. I’d seen some pretty nice views already; fish creek falls, horse riding on the mountain – but this was something else entirely. On the ride itself you sail over rooftops and glide across the trees, then at the top you have an uninterrupted panoramic view of the entire valley, which is truly breathtaking. Thunderhead Lodge sits at the top of the mountain, so we enjoyed some drinks and live music whilst taking in the scenery, before heading back down in the gondola for ice cream!
Day 5: Keepin’ It Free Concert
We finished the last working day at a free concert situated at the base of the ski jumps, organised by the good people of Steamboat Springs. The main act was The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, and there were a number of food stalls and bars inside the venue to keep us all hydrated while we relaxed on the grass, enjoying the music and sunshine. Michelle explained that essentially the whole town turns up to these events, with one local comparing them to Simpsons episodes, where every character congregates in one place! Following the concert we headed to Sunpie’s Bistro, a lovely little bar right on river bank, for dinner and drinks.
Check here again next week for the final instalment of my American journey!
