Our tour guide was Alex. We had a total of 9 for the tour. Alex was knowledgeable and very pleasant. The tour was outstanding, taking us on a leisurely route around Old Town Alexandria. I thought it was going to be just going to different restaurants, but was surprised and delighted to also receive a historical tour. The food on the tour was delicious and since I live in the area, I will be back visiting these restaurants!
Great Fun. Alex the tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable. Good food along the way. Service at each restaurant was perfect.
The tour was just the right mix of historical commentary, sampling restaurant fare, and just walking around. Our guide was quite knowledgeable and was good at getting everyone into a good mood.
Our guide was great! The first two restaurants were AMAZING. the third (lebanese) totally phoned it in. I understand that we were late, but the food was cold, we were not asked to order drinks. I love Lebanese food but the restaurant was kind of a wash. The cake at the tea and coffee place was good, but it was kind of a weird way to end the tour. For that amount of money we should be able to have a full fourth stop.
Tasty, enlightening, and a great day! I absolutely loved the Little Ethiopia Food Tour. I am a DC area resident and a long-time Ethiopian food lover, and I totally found this worthwhile. I discovered a lot of great food, architecture, and people - all for a great deal. Definitely worth doing whether you're from out-of-town or a local just looking for something new.
On Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, we and 10 other individuals were treated to a wonderful afternoon with our guide, Sharon Bosworth, in a strolling history tour, interspersed with stops at Indian, Greek and Italian restaurants. Because we had to leave to drive home to Pennsylvania, we missed dessert at a 4th stop. We would highly recommend this tour!! Thanks Sharon!
The food tour was outstanding. Not only did we get to sample very delicious food but also got a history lesson about Capitol Hill. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the different foods and also about the area. She's lived in the area for quite some time and was able to truly give us a taste of the diverse restaurants in Capitol Hill. I would highly recommend this tour.
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. All the food was god and the guide was able to answer all our questions. I would definitely recommend XperienceDays tours. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because were spent so much time outside when it was so hot. There probably wasn't much of an option, though. It was a really good experience and I'd love to do another one.
Our tour of Old Town Alexandria was brilliant. Combining good food, interesting company (we were 14 on the tour, from varied backgrounds), and historical information about the old town and buildings was my idea of a perfect day! The plates we sampled were tasty and varied, and the establishments themselves very eclectic and interesting. Kate, our guide, was a real sweetie and very knowledgeable - and, as a bonus, the weather was great, too! Couldn't have been better. :-)
This was a fabulous experience. We did not realize that we would be getting histoical information about the Eastern Marke location. We have a greater appreciation for the location and its historical significance. We enjoyed the tastings as the various restaurants we visited. The tour guide was knowledgeable and professional. I would do it again!
The food was very good and plentiful for the price, but the tour guide needs to include more explanation about the food selections, or allow the restaurant representatives to do so.
Toured with my two adult daughters, we loved the tour, weather was rainy, but Sharon, our guide, was informative and attentive- I almost forgot the drops. I already ordered another tour as a birthday gift and hope I receive another xperience gift soon.
Wow, we had a super time. This tour was a Father's Day gift. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Our guide, Dena, was fantastic! Her knowledge of the area was great. We will definitely do this again.
This past Saturday, we lucked out with the weather and we had a wonderful tour of the Old City with our knowlegeable tour guide, Ted. We learned quite a lot within a few block, about history and architecture and food! The different restaurants were interesting in the diversity of the ethnic food. It was a delicious way to walk through history. My husband's favorite was the Fried brie over Portobello mushroom. Mine was the seared scallops over risotto. We would have prefered a lighter dessert like gelatos but the jelly cake was pretty good. It's a tour we will recommend to our friends. We've heard the capitol tour was great also. We'll keep this one in mind for later this year.
Over all, it was a fun experience with friends.
We had Ted and he was great - super enthusiastic, funny and knowledgeable. Great to have him!
My only feedback is about our last two stops. The Pita House's serving was quite minimal, which is fine as it's the final part of the tour, but I think it should be substantial in case you have someone who doesn't eat the meals in the beginning of the trip (food allergies, tastes, etc.). The other point was concerning the dessert. Of all the choices in Alexandria - ice cream, crepes, cupcakes - we do jelly cake? I don't know about you, but the group was fairly unanimous that jelly cake is a bit off. We did the Capitol Hill tour about a year ago also and LOVED it!
This was a great experience. I wasn't expecting the history along with the eating. It was great to walk a little and learn inteesting information and then stop in for a bite to eat. You really have to pace yourself. The restaurants give you so much to try. It was great.
Very enjoyable afternoon. Guide was friendly, told us a lot of the history and interesting facts about the area, paced the tour well. Food was very good with one exception, Union Street Pub. Crab soup was pasty and not hot, chicken salad on the half-sandwich was discernible only with a magnifying glass. At last stop, I would have preferred a cup of hot tea with the jelly cake instead of the iced herbal tea. Everything else was very good.
The weather was awful. Probably the worst day to do a food tour and apparently other participants called in 'sick' so it was just my boyfriend, me, and our guide. But who cares because he was WONDERFUL as was the tour! I don't know what it would have been like in a bigger group but I didn't care. We had a great time, great conversation and great food. I was apprehensive about 3 hours with just tastings as the confirmation I received said that it wouldn't be a full meal and we should have a light meal beforehand (my boyfriend is a BIG eater!) but they're nuts. I was so full by the time we left there. Tour was over around noonish and I wasn't ready to eat dinner until 8pm and even then I wasn't starving. So excited to find out about the Ethiopian restaurants in DC so I can later check them out on my own!!
My husband and I took the Capitol Hill Food Tour on March 5, 2011. Our guide was Sharon Boswell. We enjoyed the experience very much. We walked, we talked we ate. We learned a great deal about the area and enjoyed surprisingly large portions of several excellent dishes. Ms. Boswell is an outstanding guide, very knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of the group. We had a wonderful time and certainly will recommend the tour to all of our friends.
We went Sunday January 9, 2011. This was our first food tour. Our guide, Ted, was very knowledgeable on the history of Old Town and pointed out a lot things that enhanced the tour, more than I expected. We enjoyed the quality, quantity and variety of the food. (Before the tour began, Ted asked about any allergies or special food needs that we might have.) The tour seemed well-organized, smooth, and we walk many blocks. We started about 1pm and ended about 4pm. The weather was clear, windy and cold. Ted got us into the restaurants quickly so we weren't in the wind that much. He really helped 'transport us' back to the past, and made a very memorable event. I know so much more about Old Town than I did before the tour. My wife and I recommend the tour, and would go again.
We had some fun on this tour but I would hardly call it a food tour. We were expecting gourmet bitings at some of Capital Hill's best restaurants and not lackluster food at Capital Hill's cheapest restaurants. The kernal corn from a can and the macoroni and cheese at one restaurant left me shaking my head in disbelief. The tour guide was a nice college student, but not a professional. I'd hate for tourists to take this tour and think that this is what DC has to offer.
Great fun! Excellent tour guide.
This tour was fantastic! The food was extremely good and it was a wonderful balance of walking, history and food. The tour guide was very nice and informative and the group was fun too. Can't wait to do another food tour!
My youngest daughter gave it to me as a Father's day gift. The tour was excellent, that goes for the food and the tour guide's informative information about the neighborhood. The only drawback was the weather, 95+ degrees & the humidity that DC is famous for.
We really enjoyed the tour. We learned a lot about the history of the Old Town area and the food was great. The only downside was having to share some plates of food with strangers at one of our restaurant stops - it was a little awkward and not everyone had a chance to try everything. Overall though we really enjoyed it.
Our daughter gave us this gift card for the tour and we enjoyed the food and seeing the sites. Our guide, Natalie was a delight!! She was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was nice visiting Capitol Hill, we had never been there before and we will definantly go again. Nice trying restaurants that we might not of tried otherwise. Would love to try the Alexandria tour next time.
Our guide, Kelly, was wonderful!! She was so friendly and knowledgeable. The portion sizes were just right and the variety of the flavors was great. I can't wait to try the Capital Hill Tour!
Natalie was our guide and she was delightful - bubbly, very knowledgeable, and respectful of our time. I have lived next to Old Town for years and yet have not ventured over because it seemed to be a difficult town to get in and out and even just park the car. This tour absolutely changed my mind and I can't wait to go back to just browse the wharf, the farmer's market and enjoy the wonderful restaurants to which this experience introduced us. I received this tour as a birthday gift from my husband and I loved it!
The walking culinary tour was wonderful and this was a birthday gift from our daughters and it was great and would be willing to take some of your other tours. Thank you so much.
An excellent experience with interesting people and a superbly informed and personable tour guide/host!
Excellent tour, but, if you have trouble up and down stairs, it may be a bit difficult, since almost all of the resaurants were up at least 1 flight of stairs. The guide, Robert, was very knowledgable about local landmarks and gave a very good presentation. The day we took the tour is was a bit chilly and windy and we thought that some of the resaurants could have offered just a bit larger portion, although the tastes and presentations were great. Also, they had a good idea to start off with appetizers at the first restaurant, a bit of an entre at the second, salad and light foods at the third and winding up with very nice desert at the end. (The promised 'colonial beverage' was a bit of a disapointment, cold cider, poured right out of the bottle! Given the day it turned out be, a nice cup of hot, mulled cider would have been more fitting.)
Our guide, Sarah, was friendly and very knowledgeable of the history of the Capitol Hill area. Her wealth of information was very interesting, and her delivery was entertaining. We enjoyed the time we spent with her, and will ask for her again on future tours. The food that was selected for us was delicious, and we have found three new restaurants that we will defininitely visit again on our own. We finished with dessert at the Eastern Market. Yummy! This food tour was a birthday gift from my husband....good idea, honey!!!
This tour was really fun and interesting. Our guide, Molly was very friendly and knowledgeable. The history and architecture was really interesting and the food was very, very good. We visited the Torpedo factory museum and saw many other historic and interesting sites. The pace was very easy and did not seem like we walked all that far. The stops at the restaurants made it even easier. Our tables and food were always ready as soon as we arrived. This was a fun and different activity and we throroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to trying the Capital Hill tour next.
My husband and I did this event for our anniversary. The guides (Sam & Jeff) were wonderful! They knew their history, design, and the food! It was a great afternoon. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to have a great time. The food was awesome. Meeting the owners was awesome! It was just an awesome time! We're going to go on the Old Town Tour next! :)
