Fantastic Day on the River
We had a fantastic day on the river. We met the guide, Mike, in Copalis Crossing at 6AM and followed him a couple miles to where we left our car at the lower part of the river for the day. Then he drove up river about 9 miles and we launched the drift boat. First thing in the morning, the fish were very active jumping out of the water, biting at many casts though we caught mostly wild salmon and had to release them. The early October day turned out to be very warm and clear. Towards the end of the morning the fish became less active and it was mostly peaceful just drifting down the river and having Mike show us were to try casting. When the action had died down, Mike encouraged us to cast closer to the shore and submerged trees, and not to worry if we snagged the hooks on debris. At one point we had 3 of the 12 rods snagged and Mike kept handing us fresh rods to keep fishing while he un-snagged the other rods. We got back to our car around 4:30 and Mike cleaned our day's catch. Mike was a very experienced and patient guide. In all, it was a very safe, pleasurable, and relaxing trip. I would strongly recommend this package for anyone who enjoys the outdoors (especially if you are beginners like us) and I personally plan on doing this trip again.
