Your experience begins by helping with the inflation and set up of the balloon at sunrise or few of hours before sunset. Once aloft, you will fly high enough for panoramic views and low enough to enjoy the excitement of skimming a river or tree tops.

You will fly at different altitudes to use the varying wind layers to "steer" the balloon. These winds will take you about 6 miles over the course of the one hour flight. Since you will not fly back to the launch site, the experienced chase crew will be in radio contact and follow you throughout the flight.

They will be there when you land to help pack up the balloon and take you back to the launch site. This is a great experience that will create lasting memories that you can share!

We had a wonderful experience during our balloon ride, Bob the pilot was excellent and provided a very safe ride and very knowledgeable on flying balloons. I would highly recommend it to anyone, beautiful sunset also.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

4 stars

Our family was very excited and a bit anxious about our scheduled Hot Air Balloon ride, as this was the first time for all of us. As soon as we met Bob Ward from On Your Way Up Ballooning company in Quakertown our anxiety was relaxed but our excitement went even higher. Bob had a great way of putting you at ease and it was soon evident he was a very skilled at this sport. The weather was somewhat too nice if that's possible as the air currents only carried us about 3 miles. Although a short trip it was very enjoyable and Bob is a great pilot and conversationalist with a good sense of humor.

We had a very pleasant experience with Robert Ward as our hot air balloon pilot. He was extremely personable and knowledgeable. I felt very safe which was very important because I was quite nervous about going on this trip. However, it is unfortunate that the area is not quite as exciting as I think other areas might be. We had tried to arrange a flight over the Napa wine valley but it was cancelled due to weather. I was very disappointed and had to schedule the flight in the Quakertown area which, although nice, I doubt it could compare to a trip over the wine region. Other than that, if someone is interested in this area, Mr. Ward is very qualified, professional and pleasant with a good sense of humor and our flight was enjoyable as a result.

Question: My husband and I received a Hot Air Balloon Ride for our 50th wedding anniversary and are very excited. It's the one in Bucks County and since we live in Philadelphia we thought we'd like to find a bed and breakfast place to stay the night before near the takeoff site. We're thinking the fall would be a beautiful time of year to do this ride. So my question is where does the balloon take off and what's a good time to catch the fall colors from above?

Answer: The balloon ride meeting point for this experience is 34 Creek Road Chalfont, Pennsylvania 18914 You can view information on the best time to catch fall foliage by visiting the Visit PA site. The link to the fall foliage reports can be found here: PA Fall Foliage Report The link on the right hand side of the page contains the 2009 season report

Question: What will the temperature be like? Should we bring extra layers?

Answer: The temperature only changes about 1 or 2 degrees every thousand feet. For most of your flight, the temperature will be between 1 and 4 degrees cooler than the temperature on the ground – barely noticeable. Plus the balloon will be pushed by the wind. So no wind chill!

Question: How does the pilot steer the balloon?

Answer: He doesn't really steer. The wind changes directions at different altitude, so by ascending and descending he can change the direction the balloon is traveling. Part of the fun of the hot air balloon is you never know exactly where you are going to land.

Question: Where will we take off / land?

Answer: The balloons take normally take off from an open field at Quakertown Airport. Because balloons fly with the wind, the landing site changes virtually every flight. Generally, it will be an open field somewhere within a 10-mile radius of our launch point. Exact location details will be provided with the confirmation of your booking.
