Guided Gunks Rock Climbing

5 stars

Great experience. The guide was extremely friendly and the overall experience was a lot of fun. Also, learned a lot about rock climbing. Will probably do it again.

- - Stamford, CT

Question: What should I bring?

Answer: Bring a light lunch and lots of water, at least 2 liters per person in hot weather. Insect repellent and sun screen are useful when conditions indicate. You should have backpack with you to carry everything. You won't have to climb with the backpack.

Question: I have some of my own equipment. Should I bring it?

Answer: Yes, it's better to use the equipment you'll be practicing in after the class. You're guide will inspect it before you head out to make sure it's good to go.

Question: Do I need to have a lot of upper body strength to climb?

Answer: Not if you have good technique. Even if you can't do a single pull up you can still climb. Ideally you'll use your legs more than your arms.

Question: I have a friend who climbs a lot and he said climbers typically don't wear socks. Is that true?

Answer: Most seasoned climbers that own their own shoes do not wear socks. If you choose to wear socks make sure they are thin as they will give you a better feel for the rock.
