This hands-on private two-hour sail lesson in Saco Bay is perfect for both beginner sailors and seasoned skippers in need of a refresher. With an expert instructor, you’ll run through the A-Z of sailing and everything you need to know to safely set sail!

Begin your two-hour lesson with an introduction to your sail instructor, a life jacket fitting and an all important safety briefing. Once you are ready and raring to go, you will get to work aboard the sail boat. Either on your own, or with a friend, you will start at the basics and work through each step of sailing a boat until you feel like a pro sailor! You’ll cover everything from setting the sails, navigation, how to read the weather, safely sail when conditions change and much more. If you already have plenty of experience and would like to adapt your experience to focus on different elements, please share this as the team are happy to tailor the lesson to help you get most of your time.

The Saco Bay Private Sailing Lesson in Maine are offered 2 days a week on selected says in June, July and August, subject to availability. Lessons begin at varying times throughout the season.

The Sailing Lessons may be rescheduled by the Captain or the Coast Guard if there is severe weather.

What To Wear

Dress comfortably for the season. Flat, rubber soled shoes and a sweater are recommended for this adventure.

Dress in layers, windbreakers or a warmer layer are usually needed on the water, it can be pleasantly cool. After sunset, it can cool quickly, especially early in the season. Conditions at sea are normally similar to the beach except a bit cooler and windier. Sunscreen plus a sunhat, sunglasses and whatever other sun protection you require. Soft-soled shoes are best for comfort and ease of walking around on the boat. A raincoat can be useful. You are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks on board. There is an on-board refrigerator running to store your items you want to keep cool.

Children taking lessons must have a guardian’s permission. Those taking lessons, must wear life jackets. The staff will provide life jackets or you can bring your own.

Your Sailing Lesson will start at a private pier in Biddeford.

Gratuity for your instructor is not included.
