During this Tour of Harlem, you will learn about Harlem from its origins as a rural Dutch community and a summer retreat for New York’s most prominent families as you witness this New York neighborhood’s renaissance. Throughout the tour you will encounter famous landmarks such as Columbia University, Morningside Heights, Strivers Row and the Abyssinian Baptist Church, the Cotton Club, the Apollo Theater, Sugar Hill, Duke Ellington's apartment, and more!

Before this Harlem Tour is complete, you'll join a local congregation for a morning worship service with live Gospel Music. So whether you are looking to learn about Harlem’s unique culture or for an exciting experience gift, this Harlem Gospel Tour is perfect!

The Harlem Gospel Tour is offered Sunday and Wednesday mornings, year-round, subject to availability. Tours begin at 9:00 AM.

What To Wear

Comfortable, semi-casual attire and comfortable walking shoes are recommended for this adventure. Tank Tops, shorts and flip flops are not permitted during Sunday Service.

The Sunday gospel tour includes a visit to a local church and visitors take part in a traditional Sunday service for about an hour to an hour and a half. The Wednesday tours include the "Hour of Power Gospel Service," a collaboration between Harlem Spirituals and The Addicts Rehabilitation Center featuring the talented and inspiring ARC Gospel Choir.

All tours are led by tour guides and take place on luxury coach buses. Most buses are equipped with on-board restrooms. Buses are not equipped with lap or shoulder belts or harnesses. The use or consumption of alcohol products is strictly prohibited on the bus. Federal and State law prohibit smoking on the bus. Video and audio recording on the bus are strictly prohibited.

Part of the tour price is donated to the Church. Out of respect for congregants, cameras and camrecorders cannot be used inside of the Church.

Tour includes multiple stop for photo opportunities, walking and exploring each neighborhood.

This tour does not include food or beverages. Participants should bring spending money as they will have the opportunity to purchase additional food, beverages, gifts and souvenirs on the tour.

Gratuities for your tour guide are not included but are greatly appreciated and may be offered at the end of the event.

Specific stops on the tour are subject to change. Tour Guides may reschedule the tour if the minimum number of participants (4) is not met.

Tour runs in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese (on request).

Question: What should I wear for the Gospel Tour Of Harlem? Do I need to wear my church clothes?

Answer: Semi-Casual attire is acceptable. No shorts, tank tops or flip flops. You are attending a morning worship service so dress respectfully.
Question: Are the tours in English only?

Answer: The company that runs the tours have guides that speak English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. You may request one of these guides in the comments field when booking your reservation. Please remember that they require more than one participant speaking another language to offer the tour in two languages.
Question: My parents have always wanted to see Gospel in Harlem, so I bought them this gift for their 50th wedding anniversary. Will there be a lot of walking?

Answer: The majority of the Gospel Tour Of Harlem is spent on a bus, and there is not much walking involved.
Question: I am interested in this tour for my Grandmother who uses a Wheelchair. Is the Gospel Tour of Harlem wheelchair accessible?
