Drive a genuine carbon fiber formula racecar on one of the World’s most renowned racetracks, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca! During this once-in –lifetime experience gift you’ll have the opportunity to drive a Formula Car!

The fun begins at the Racetrack in Salinas. Upon arrival, you’ll check-in and walk the track! Next, it’s time to get fitted with your driving suit, helmet and gloves. Once everyone’s ready, you’ll head to the classroom and learn about the formula car and its gearbox. The following on-track session will cover the rest of the vehicle’s controls. After heel – toe exercises, students will lap the track with the Instructors and learn the racing line. Following a break for lunch and a quick driver’s meeting, it’s time to start your engines!

Finally, you will climb into the Formula Car and experience the thrill of this challenging 2.238 mile race course. From high speed banked turns, to dramatic elevation changes, fast straights and challenging technical corners, Laguna Seca is the ultimate road-racing course! Throughout the afternoon driving sessions, you’ll have debriefings with your Instructor who will use state-of-the-art MoTeC data systems to see, understand, and critique your driving …just like the pros! The Formula Racing Experience is offered on specific dates throughout the year, subject to availability. Sessions typically begin at 8:00 AM.

How Long Is It

The Formula Car Driving Experience is typically 9½ hours in duration. The full day schedule is typically as follows:

7:00 - 8:00 Track Walk with Allen Berg (weather permitting)
8:00 - 8:15 Selection of Driving Apparel
8:15 - 8:40 Classroom Session: Introductions & Gearbox
9:40 - 9:30 Trackside Sessions: Introduction to Formula Car and its Controls, Students fitted to racecar, Vision Exercises
9:30 - 10:30 Classroom Session: Heel & Toe Exercises
10:40 - 12:40 2 Formula Car Lapping with Instructor, 2 Touring Car Lapping with Instructor
12:40 - 13:25 LUNCH
13:25 - 13:45 Drivers Meeting

The Formula Car Driving may be rescheduled by the Instructor due to heavy rain or other inclement weather. Cancellations due to weather are rare.

What To Wear

Closed toe shoes are required. Participants should keep in mind that the race car pedals sit very close together, so skinnier shoes are highly recommended. Participants should wear cotton clothing that will be comfortable under the drivers suit (t-shirt and shorts are recommended). Please do not wear jeans. A driver’s suit, gloves and helmet will be provided.

If you have your own driver's suit, gloves and helmet; it must be Snell and FIA compliant.

GoPro cameras are available to capture your race day experience on the track. Mounted just above the driver’s helmet participants can receive the HD footage before leaving on an SD card.

Participants will follow a high-speed performance car driven at very high speeds and by a professional racecar driver. As they become more comfortable driving a Formula One style racecar, speeds increase, exceeding cornering speeds of 90 mph.

An Insurance Policy can be purchased on the day of the event to limit liability. While damage is unlikely, purchasing the policy is still highly recommend in order to reduce financial exposure to only $2,000 in the case of an incident.

Participation in the Formula Racing is limited to individuals weighing less than 250lbs and less than 6'7" tall. Individuals who are pregnant, have broken bones or other physical conditions which are considered unsafe in racing conditions are not eligible to participate.

Participants must be at least 5' tall and 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive a manual transmission.

Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form.

Reservation Information

All changes to reservations for the Laguna Seca Formula Car Driving Experience require thirty-five (35) days advance notice. Changes to reservations are subject to a $125.00 administrative fee. No changes can be made within thirty-five (35) days of the date of the reservation. Xperience Certificates® cannot be exchanged once a reservation for the experience has been made.
