This is a great way to see the city, but as always, your docent can make or break the experience. Our first tour was the red line city tour and our guide was excellent. Knowledgeable, well versed, pleasant. We enjoyed him so much, we stayed on instead of getting off, to learn all he had to share, which was interesting factually and historically. We got off at the last stop in Little Havannah, and had a nice lunch, before returning to the central area and transfer to the blue beach loop. I wish I had remembered from a previous trip many years ago, that this loop is long and badly traffic congested, and while you see the Art Deco buildings, maybe not as interesting. And on the hottest day of the year, and a sudden downpour which led us downstairs, it became nearly unbearable. Now we discover there is little visage from windows, and no air conditioning, so as soon as we could we returned upstairs for a view. In all fairness, everyone was very hot and uncomfortable, and that had to include our guide, who did maintain her"cool". Perhaps under different circumstances she may have been better, but she rattled off the facts and had little else to add, unlike the first guide. The bus, incidentally, seemed to be having some difficulty as the driver had frequent conversations with dispatch. She, by the way, drove one handed, blew her horn and crabbed at other drivers, and jerked us about with quick stops. ( the first driver was smooth and even stopped us in the shade of trees where possible, for which the guide thanked him!) By the time we got back, we had had it, and actually skipped the newly added green loop. Had there been an air conditioned bus available, we would have taken that. But we were told the company had just opened a new outlet in NYC and transferred most of the air conditioned buses there!!! In April, to NY, where it is cool?? As Miami heads into even more heat and steam?? Not a very wise business decision in my mind! We saw inky 2 busses with AC and could not be told when they would arrive next. The "vintage" buses are in varying states of use and repair, and one was pulled as we watched, due to overheating. Ours may have ended the same way. We got on one that was visibly shabby, and got off take another.
So, to summarize....good tour, but they need the newer busses, and you may want to do the beach loop early or late, and try to avoid traffic congestion......if that is possible!
