Learn about the enthralling history of slavery and the Underground Railroad as it pertains to New York City during this two and a half hour Guided Walking Tour.

Go back in time and discover the history of slavery in New York. Your knowledgeable NY Guide will escort you and the rest of the guests through the New York streets to historical landmarks as you hear fascinating tails of courage and triumph.  Visit the site of the city’s first slave market while learning about about the group of brave men and women who formed the networks that became the Underground Railroad. Visit a former stop of the Railroad that fugitive slaves secretly passed and an African Burial Ground Memorial.

Whether you are looking for new ways to explore the Big Apple or a unique gift for a history buff, this NYC Underground Railroad Tour is inspirational.

Who Is Included hide

The NYC Underground Railroad Tour Experience Gifts Certificate is valid for one participant, unless additional participants are added onto the certificate. There will be additional participants on the tour.

This experience is not suitable for non-paying guests or spectators.

When It Is Offered hide

The Underground Railroad Tours of New York are offered Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays April thru October; and on Saturdays November through March. Tours typically begin at 1:00 PM.

How Long Is It hide

The New York Tours are typically 2½ hours in length with a total duration of 2¾ hours.

Weather hide

The New York Sightseeing Tours take place in all weather conditions.

What To Wear hide

Dress comfortably. Flat walking shoes and layers are recommended for this walking adventure.

Additional Information hide

Tours include less than two miles of walking. All ages are welcome on the tour. Please keep in mind the subject matter may not be interesting to young children, and you will be standing or walking for two and a half hours. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Tours do not end at the meeting location.

There will be approximately 25–32 participants on the tour. The tour guide wears a portable microphone an speaker to ensure all participants can hear.

Tours do not run on on the following Holidays: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

This tour is Wheelchair accessible. Service animals are allowed on the tour, however pets are not.

Gratuities are not included but are greatly appreciated and may be offered at the end of the event.
