Experience the tranquil but exhilarating thrill of Paragliding during a Tandem Paragliding Flight in Santa Barbara. A paragliding paradise, Santa Barbara is one of the top California Paragliding locations. In fact, the training hill where you will meet with your instructor is recognized as one of the premier paragliding training hills in the US!

Your experience begins on the beach south of Carpinteria with a brief ground instruction introducing you to the fundamentals of paraglider control, launching, and landing. Once ready, your Instructor will attach themself and your harness to the paraglider and the Scenic Flight will begin after jogging about fifty feet for take-off. Local area weather permits a year-round flying and the 4000' Santa Ynez Mountains overlooking the Pacific offer amazing views.

This Santa Barbara Paragliding is the best way to experience the thrill of flight and its one of the most incredible ways to enjoy the stunning coastal vistas of California.

The Tandem Paragliding Flights are offered seven days a week, year-round, subject to availability. Flights take place at 12:00 PM. *The additional option for the Day Lesson takes place at 10:00 AM

How Long Is It

The Santa Barbara Paragliding Experience includes two one-minute flights and has an average total duration of approximately 50 minutes, unless the Day Lesson is selected.

Weather

The Santa Barbara Paragliding may be rescheduled by the instructor due to severe weather such as high winds or rain.

What To Wear

hide

Dress comfortably, layers, flat rubber-soled athletic shoes, and sunglasses are recommended for this aerial adventure. Participants will be provided with all necessary equipment. For this experinece, please wear sturdy footwear, preferably boots, sturdy pants, e.g. jeans, warm clothing layers, and warm gloves.

Participation in the Santa Barbara Tandem Paraguilde is limited to individuals over 10 years of age and weighing less than 250lbs. Individuals who are pregnant, have broken bones or other physical conditions which are considered unsafe conditions are not eligible to participate.

Participants are required to sign a Liability Release Form.

Paragliding

I had the greatest experience with my instructor, Chris. He took the time to make me feel comfortable... and I loved paragliding! I am considering taking it up as a hobby, and Chris gave a great explanation of everything there is to the sport. Highly recommend.

Question: What is the difference between paragliding and hang gliding?

Answer: Primarily the wing structure. Hang gliders fly on an aluminum frame V wing while paragliders have a soft wing, more like a parachute. Paragliders are smaller to fold up, travel at slower speeds and are typically have a faster learning curve.
Question: I am interested in purchasing a unique and different gift for my daughters birthday. We have done parasailing on vacations before and would like to know if this is the same?

Answer: No, a parasail is basically a parachute that is towed and then slowly lowered to the ground. A paraglider covers more surface area and is launched by foot from a hill or mountainside. A paraglider free flies and is not tied or towed by anything. Once in the air, a paraglider can fly for hours at a time.
Question: I received the paragliding experience in Santa Barbara as a birthday gift, but I'm afraid of heights! Am I going to be too scared to participate?

Answer: A lot of people that say they are afraid of heights are actually afraid of edges. This is a tandem experience and most people equate it to flying in an airplane. The take off may be a little intimidating depending on your degree of fear, however you should be fine once up in the air. If you are really concerned let us know and you may exchange your experience certificate for another.
