• Great way to explore

  The hop-on-hop-off way of exploring cities is great. It takes you through the most the famous tourist attractions and gives you freedom to spend as much or as little time as you want in each place. It takes away the stress of driving in an unfamiliar city and constantly checking the map. The open top allows to take all the photos and videos. We use this service wherever it's available.
  
  The only reason I'm taking one star off the rating is that the busses are old and there are no USB outlets to charge phones or cameras. Also, before pandemic there used to be a guide on each bus talking through the PA about the places we are passing, some history, and what's worth seeing. Now there are headphones and the drivers supposed to narrate, but they hardly do, except for what stop number is coming up.

  The bus company had no barcode to allow us on the bus. No matter how I tried to find one on your email, no way for the bus company to scan us on. I tried to call your company and got no answer. I feel ripped off.

• Great experience overall

  If you don't have much time to spare, but want to see it all, it's a great tour. Or if you don't know which attraction of this beautiful city to pick to see in details, this tour will give you an idea for sure.
  I also liked a lot that bus driver tried to give a tour personal touch and shared his story. He sure got a lot of attention from many. But I also think the company should've provided him with some sort of microphone for things like that, so everyone on the bus could hear him well.

• Superb Hop On Off Tour 1 Day Pass - San Francisco: As a Local, I Loved It!

  I decided to play tourist for the day in my favorite city - San Francisco. I purchased my ticket from the vendor near Pier 39. I then boarded the tour bus. The bus covers the usual sights of Pier 39, Fisherman Wharf, Fort Mason, etc. and then goes across the Golden Gate Bridge.
  
  This was a highlight. The panoramic views from on top of the bus were amazing. Its so different than when we just drive across the bridge in our car. It was also a warm sunny February day which made it all the better. We then had 10 minutes at Vista Point to get great pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the San Francisco skyline.
  
  Next stop was Golden Gate Park. At that point I got off the Hop On/Off Bus to go to the deYoung Cafe for lunch, enjoy Golden Gate Park, and then go see the Japanese Gardens.
  
  The morning tour guide was very nice and informative about the variouus sights around the area.
  
  I then reboarded the Hop On/Off bus and the tour guide was different. He had a wealth of San Francisco history. He was also very funny. He was so happy to have a local on his tour bus. I talked to others from Canada, Michigan, etc. who were tourists on the bus.
  
  From Golden Gate Park, then one goes to the Haight-Ashberry area. This area has such rich music and hippie history. the area now is pretty nice and lots of things to see including the legs hanging from the window.
  
  From there the bus goes through other areas of San Francisco and then goes to Union Square. At Union Square everyone has to get off the Hop On/Off tour bus for about 20 minutes (or one can spend longer and wait for another Hop On/off bus.) I chose to just enjoy the sights at Union Square and have a beverage.
  
  I enjoyed the tour guide so much I then stayed on the Hop On/Off Bus and did the entiere route again through San Francisco.
  
  Its fun to do. Do note that you are so high up on the bus that sometimes you have to watch out. When you go under the underpasses at one tunnel by Golden Gate Bridge there is very little clearance and at times one has to duck to miss the pesky trees on route.
  
  Ovearll though as a local, I learned a lot of history and it was so good to also have s tour guide revisit and point out the history at many of my most favorite places.
  
  I highly recommend the Hop On/Off Tour for any visitor as it takes the guess work out of trying to figure out the public transportation system. It takes you to all the amazing areas in San Francisco that one would want to visit for a first trip to the City.

• Not bad but not worth the money in my opinion.

  The bus tour is good, however you need to get off at a lot of stops and walk a fair way to see the ‘sights’.
  I personally think it’s expensive for what you get.

• Great way to see San Francisco’s highlights

  We parked at the Union Square Garage and started our tour from there (very convenient). We did the whole route before hopping off. The route covers just about every great spot to see in San Francisco. We enjoyed the tour and the audio descriptions provided during the tour were very helpful.

• A great way to get a view of the city!

  I would advise to take advantage of this, but start early to really enjoy the various sights of the city and also get the full opportunity of the Hop-On, Hop-Off option. But well worth the money.

• Great way to see the city! But...

  Great views! Clean! Reasonable.
  
  Hours were not so great, last stop was 6pm, and the pick up times were 30 minutes at any given stop. We expected shorter waits to fit more in on our days in the city. Also sat in the bus 25+ minutes which appears to be while the driver took his lunch. Another bus in front of the one they had us board and it also sat the entire 25+ minutes. We were not expecting perfections because of Covid, but seemed excessive loss of time to hop on and hop off. ....

• Ticketing nightmare

  Needless hassle to get tickets: After buying tickets on sftourcompany.com, which is the tour bus's corporate website and cheaper than on tripadvisor.com, I received a confirmation email that said that I could use it to redeem tickets an any tour bus stop. I showed my email at the Union Square bus stop in San Francisco, and the ticket person said that he couldn't issue tickets until I received a second email with a QR code. After telling him that I had purchased the tickets over an hour ago, he said that it could take up to 3 hours to receive this email, since it was coming from London. (Huh?) After 10 minutes of arguing, he printed out our tickets. By the way, the second email never arrived. Do not use sftourcompany.com to buy tickets for this.

• Great way to see the city…….

  This was the ideal way to start our San Francisco holiday by exploring the city with this day on the bus. We did a full circuit in the morning and then spent the remainder of the day getting on and off at the locations we wanted to see. The audio narrative gives everyone an idea of where you are and what’s coming up and for what you get, it’s pretty good value.

• Would NOT recommend

  Two or three buses were broken down. We never were able to get on a bus (they were running late) and ended up taking an Uber so we could make it to the walking Tour of China Town. That’s the only area of SF we visited during our 4 hour stay. Very disappointed.

• San Francisco Hop on Hop Off Bus - A Great Way to see the Sights

  I bought combined tickets for Alcatraz and a 2 day hop on hop off bus ticket, these tickets came with access to the WWII Submarine tour and bicycle hire too, although we didn't realise this until using the bus ticket and it was a bit too late for the cycle hire for us!
  Bought the tickets through Attraction Tickets in London who were superb!
  We probably didn't use the bus tickets to their full advantage as we only used it one day and chose to stay on the bus for a complete circuit tour rather than hoping on and off! I would highly recommend doing the full circuit first and then if you have time, we didn't too man other things to do, go back around and get off at the places you really want to spend time at.
  The circuit takes you everywhere and the commentary via headphones is great too. A real experience driving over the Golden Gate Bridge, take a jumper or a hoodie very windy and cold and it's an open top bus. They give everyone a chance to move downstairs before crossing the bridge but it's a great experience on the open top deck!

  My son was starting a 6 month apprenticeship the next week. The idea to have a fun get-a-way before by touring San Francisco was done with our tour of San Francisco and Muir Woods. The Woods were awe inspiring. To visit downtown just an hour away was great. Such a contrast. And good food to boot.

  Since we booked our tickets through Viator rather than directly through Big Bus tours, the lady at Hilton big bus ticket office told us we had booked a different bus tour. She wasn’t able to verify the booking number. We eventually were given our tickets.

• Great way to see the city

  It’s really a ‘must do’ as it is such a great way to accustomise yourself to the city, whilst having the option to jump off of you want to …… whilst picking up some great info via the audio on the headphones.
  
  They don’t start until 10am, which feels a little late if you’re like us and like starting your day early but we just caught up with one later in the day when we needed a break from walking, The stops are appropriate, and well spaced out - the busses are supposed to be 15mins apart but we found this a bit hit and miss, so don’t depend on it.

• Disappointed

  I was so disappointed in the tour. Having taken the tour 10 years ago, I had some moderate level of expectation. First, the ear buds didn't work. Second, the driver was unresponsive and even rude. A women approached the driver to ask a question. His response was "are you getting off the bus?" She said no. He responded "then sit down and shut up!" I was shocked. So was she! What has happened to this organization?

• It wasn't all it said it would be.

  1.It was a hassle to "redeem" our ticket which you needed to hop on/off. 2. The audio info was limited.
  3.the stops were prolonged, not on/off. Which seemed like a ticketing issue.
  4.they did not stop at one of the stops that was clearly indicated on the itinerary.
  Lastly, we heard the phrase, " we don't that anymore" multiple times.
