Bring an adventurous appetite and head over to the Shaw and U Street Neighborhoods where you will discover the world’s largest Ethiopian community outside of Ethiopia. On this three hour Walking Food Tour you will experience the flavors, textures and colors of Ethiopian Cuisine.

The gastronomic journey begins in the in the U Street Neighborhood where you will meet you friendly and knowledgeable food Guide. You and the rest of the guests will then traverse through the center of Ethiopian life in DC while you stop at hidden gems that showcase quality, authentic dishes. Built and maintained through hard work and perseverance, you will truly appreciate the pride of the Ethiopian community. Designed for the adventurous eater, some of the exotic dishes you will taste include traditional meat and vegetable dishes, hand made hot sauces and spice blends, traditional breakfast, Ethiopian Honey Wine and more!

Who Is Included hide

The Little Ethiopia Food Tour Experience Gifts Certificate is valid for one participant, unless additional participants are added onto the certificate. You will be joined by up to 13 additional participants on the tour.

This experience is not suitable for non-paying guests or spectators.

When It Is Offered hide

The Little Ethiopia Culinary Tours are offered Saturdays year round, subject to availability. Tours typically begin at 10:30 AM on Wednesdays.

How Long Is It hide

The Little Ethiopia Walking Food Tours have a tour length of approximately 3 hours and a total duration of approximately 3¼ hours.

Weather hide

The Washington DC Food Tours take place in all weather conditions, but may be rescheduled by the Guide due to sever weather conditions.

What To Wear hide

Dress comfortably. Flat rubber-soled shoes and layers are recommended for this culinary adventure. Flip-flops, high heels and dress-shoes are not recommended.

Additional Information hide

Tours finish within three blocks of the starting point and include 1½ to 2 miles of walking. There are typically four or five stops along the tour, each stop will last between 20 and 25 minutes.

All dishes are served sitting down, so you can enjoy the ambiance of each restaurant while trying their specialties, and hearing their stories. All dishes served are included in the price of the tour. The dishes you will try resemble small meals rather than traditional tastings. During the Food Tour, each restaurant will serve water or other beverages. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased during the tour from the restaurant(s).

Eating a light brunch before the tour rather than lunch is recommended. Enough food is served that most participants will not need dinner after the tour.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the experience no substitutions can be made.

Gratuities for your tour guide are not included but are greatly appreciated and may be offered at the end of the event.
