The San Francisco Tours are offered Thursday thru Sunday, year-round, subject to availability. Tours typically begin at 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM.

How Long Is The San Francisco Urban Hike

The Urban Jungles is a 3 hour tour and includes 5 miles of hiking. The Union Square, Nob Hill and Chinatown is a 2 hour tour and includes 3 miles of hiking. The Tales of the City is a 2½ hour tour and includes 4½ miles of hiking.

Does Weather Impact City Tour Experiences

The Urban Hiking Tours maybe rescheduled by the Guide due to poor weather conditions.

What to Wear for City Tour Experiences

Dress comfortably in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Flat rubber-soled walking shoes or hiking boots, layers and sunglasses are recommended for this adventure.

What To Know Before You Go

With nearly 100 miles of hiking trails, over 200 parks, and 300 stairways all within San Francisco City limits, there is a ton of exploring to do. On your hike you will see major attractions, hidden gems and secret hiking trails locals don't even know about!

Participants are encouraged to bring walking shoes, plenty of water, a camera, a jacket, and spending money as they will have the opportunity to purchase food, beverages, gifts and souvenirs on the tour.

Hikes are not recommended for children under the age of 13, however you may use your own judgement on whether your child will enjoy a five mile hike.

Gratuities for your tour guide are not included but are greatly appreciated and may be offered at the end of the event.

Great way to see some of the city

My wife and I live not far from San Francisco, so when we decided to do a weekend getaway, we were looking for non-typical things to do. Since we both like hiking, an urban hike seemed like a good idea. And boy are we happy with this decision!

We went on the Urban Jungles and City Heights tour from the Castro Theater up to Twin Peaks and back. Our guide Alex had great information and was very personable. She also did a good job taking stock of the group (there were three other people besides me and my wife) to make sure that we were going at the right speed and getting enough breathers.

Alex was also very engaging; we could (and did) talk about all sorts of stuff, from software project management to the 1906 earthquake to WW2 history. The selected path was also great with plenty of amazing views of the city and curious things to see.

All in all, due to this experience, I'll look into doing more urban hikes with Alex!

Question: I'd like to purchase an Urban Hike for my friends that just moved to San Francisco, but I'm not sure which tour they'd like to take. Can I give them the certificate and let them decide?

Answer: Yes, the gift card/certificate is valid for all three tours. Your friends can pick the location when they redeem it for a reservation.
Question: I am interested in giving this tour to my parents as a gift. How strenuous is the hike on this tour?

Answer: The hike covers 5 miles over 2 1/2 to 3 hours. This tour is more hike than tour. Expect to be walking 80% of the time and learning the history of the area the other 20%. It also involves many sets of stairs and hills.
Question: Are there any bathroom stops on the way?

Answer: Yes, all three tours have bathroom stops.
Question: My sister and I are visiting this weekend and there is rain in the forecast on the date of our reservation. Will the tour be cancelled for rain?

Answer: It's up to you. Most walking tours are held rain or shine but if the weather is bad and you don't want to hike in the rain they will allow you to reschedule. However, the tour is non-refundable.
